The Rime of the Ancient Subaru Driver.
It is an ancient Motorist,
And he stoppeth one or thrice
By credit card he paid for fuel two times,
But the
windscreen rubber failing wasn't nice.
The
brewery's doors are opened wide,
And I am next in line;
The friends are met, the feast is set:
None hears
small Tammy whine.
The
sun came up after we had left,
Out of the scrub came he!
And he shone bright, and on the night
Went down
into the sea.
At
Tuesday Eve did cross a Dolphin,
Across the Bay it came;
It ate the food it always ate
Sped up, when meal did same.
And
now this spell was snapped: once more
I
viewed the parrots green,
And
having once turned round walked quick
Because
I saw a ffying owl
Drop
down a mighty slick.
I looked upon the towering dunes,
And quietly blessed my luck;
I looked upon the carved up track,
And there I was not stuck.
Oystercatchers
walked forth and back
as
though they owned the beach.
Pacific
Gull ate octopus (black)
As
though it was a peach.
Two times twenty living men,
played footy in each town
Each mighty punt, the forwards leapt
Fullbacks dropped them quickly down.
Each town brass-band, has got a hall:
Of yellow brick designed!
They play upon the ovals,
Their oompahs most refined.
Alone, alone, all, all alone,
Alone in mallee stuff
And never a Ranger came to moan
His bureaucratic guff.
The three's dogs mouths are opened
wide,
their tongues are hanging out;
The guests are met, the feast is set:
all this food will make us stout!'
Water, water everywhere,
Nor any drop to drink
It came down from the cloudy sky,
without a pause to think.
Now desert rain is very rare,
Not so is home and dry!
