Morning starts with evening

All good things must come to an end.  The end of this good thing began with a nice view of the evening star (aka the morning star, aka the planet Venus) behind the trees on the far side of the dam.  (Click on the image for a bigger version - the nearest planet is a long way off!)
It was also rather chilly.  I walked Tammie up to the bins on Topi Rd to drop off our recycling and there was heavy frost everywhere.

We ended up leaving at 8:30 - yes we were actually early and trolled along through Lakes Way to the roadworks of the Buladelah bypass.  Somewhat to my surprise there was actually work happening.  They must have a strong performance bonus in the contract!  That being said, I have no idea what the guys in the second image were up to.
We then worked our way down the Pacific Highway and around Newcastle.  I have a suspicion that we misinterpreted a road sign somewhere as a 4x4 towing a caravan appeared to overtake us in this part of the route.  Traffic got rather heavy as we came past the Central Coast and stayed that way until we gotpast the final turn off to Gosford.  No idea why this was so.

We then got to what I regard as the most spectacular bit of road in Australia - and a world class bit of civil engineering - the drop into and out of the crossing of the Hawkesbury River.  The next few images are the highlights of the rock faces and cuttings on that trip.

This third image is interesting for the obedience to the rule of no trucks in the RH lane!
Whatever we were into Sydney metropolitan area (Pennant Hills Rd) in fine time and refilled with petrol.  Shortly thereafter the metaphorical wheels fell off.  For reasons I do not understand I misunderstood the signs taking us on to the free-way and as a result spent 35km grovelling through 3 squillion sets of suburban traffic lights from Parramatta to Liverpool and eventually to the Hume Highway.  It only added about 30 minutes to the trip but felt like an eternity.Wot a GOOSE!

Once on the Hume just a matter of firing on down the road to home.
