Booze and Nosh page

It appears that the areas we are visiting all have some claims to gastronomic fame:

  • Wentworth/Mildura: irrigated orchards for fruit and the Mildura brewery (I have done some research on the latter and their Strong ale and Honey-wheat beer are excellent).
  • Lower Eyre Peninsula: very good seafood, especially Coffin Bay Oysters.
  • The Barossa Valley: wine and various Germanic foods.
  • Adelaide: all sorts of goodies at the Central Market
This page will report on what we discover.

A tasting tray from the excellent Mildura Brewery.
A sack of Navel oranges were acquired from a roadside stall between Renmark and Morgan.  Have you ever bathed in fresh orange juice?  They were yummy!

We had three goes at Coffin Bay Oysters (including one dozen taken to the Barossa).  We should have had more!
Also excellent were the prawns available in Port Lincoln.  They really were quite large - almost mini lobsters!
We got some more good beer at the Barossa Brewery: Organic Ale and Bee Sting.
This shows them posed on the cases of wine from Wolf Blass
Here we have some bread from the Apex bakery in Tanunda, pate from Maggie Beer's Farmshop and smoked fish (possibly from Port Lincoln)
